Story

Bun means happiness. We intend to create positive emotional experience whenever someone engages with Bun. It’s a place where people can capture memorable moments based on their locations and share with their closed friends and family

Literally, There’s always a surprise in a “Bun”, a traditional Chinese cuisine. The pillowy soft butter bun is filled with a juicy broth and savory, slightly sweet filling of roast pork.

It exactly represents the value of “BUN”. We want to bring happiness and laughter into people’s lives. That is, “Live closer, live better”.

  1. Tweens and teens are looking for a new social network where there are more intimacy, privacy and accessibility to the "right" information. Instead of posting generic and sanitized updates for all to see, they are sharing their transient goofy pictures or videos and blow-by-blow descriptions of class with only their closest friends.
     
  2. Consumer interest in coupons remained strong; however, the coupon redemption rates is less than 1%. It is a great opportunity for us to create a new coupon user experience in a fun way.

I.   Persona

Nick and Kelly are teenagers, are adept with mobile devices. Peer relationships are very important to teens, which create a powerful sense of belonging. Small business owners like Olga and Bob, they do not have a huge budget and marketing teams. However, they're all willing to try new technology. They want to acquire more young customers and boost both online and in-store traffic

 

II.   Idea Generation

“BUN” is a social media platform to enlarge our world by merging two world, virtual and physical. We designed two types of BUN: "Bun" and "CouBUN". Bun is for users; CouBun is for merchants. 

Based on user's behaviors, I designed two main colors which represent BUN and COUBUN: 

  1. Coral Orange-red (Bun): a bright vibrant color which symbolizes physical energy.
  2. Light Sky Blue (CouBun): a color a peaceful color exhibits trust, honesty and loyalty. 

To enhance a fun user experience, I created 5 different BUN for user to express their moods: smile, null, mysterious, haha and sorry. 

 

III.   User Flow

There’re two types of user: BUN and COUBUN.

BUN user is tied with their locations. They have to go to a certain spot to drop a bun or pick up a bun. On the other hand, COUBUN user isn’t limited to their locations. They can allocate their marketing budget wherever they prefer. 

One amazing feature in BUN is when a user picks up a BUN, the system will automatically capture your face by front camera. That is exactly what happens in real life! When we hand friends/family a present, or talk a joke to the audience, we want to know how people react. There is an enormous sense of satisfaction when seeing the expression on the face of someone you’ve given a gift to. Since there’s no any social medias can capture people’s instant expressions, this is totally an A-HA moment for users! However, we provide user the freedom they could decide to respond by the video or not. This shows our respect and gives users a sense of security.

V.   Prototype

Users are able to drop a “Bun” which captures and stores stories around them. People can only view the content once they get to the spot. This creates a phenomenal immersive connection to others’ experiences. 

On the other hand, local merchants can drop a “CouBun” to promote their business. By providing them geographic conversion rate statistics, they can deliver coupons to their target customers more accurate than ever. 

 

VI.   Business Model

From premium users: Every Coubun is free to acquire and has guaranteed value of $2 or above, but the storage is limited. $1.99/month for extra 5 CouBun storage slots. This makes 14.4M/year. 

From Businesses: We offer hot zone recommendation for higher conversion rate. $0.1~$1.5/CouBun distributed. Surged rate at hot zone. This makes 175.2M/year.
